Right on our doorstep and with two options for walking Lingmoor it is one of the most fun and convenient Wainwrights for a relaxing slow walk or a quick summit great views and back if the weather is not so great. You can also add Lingmoor on to a walk taking in other Wainwrights such as Silver How.

This route is an out and back on the same path option for maximum views for minimum time and effort.

Route / description.

Leaving Langdale at the Elterwater gate turn left over the bridge and pass the hostel taking the next left past Elterwater Hall and follow the track keeping an eye out for other trail users as this one is open to all and is a popular mountain bike track.

Passing through the gate the track flattens off and offers some fantastic views. Look out for a gate and footpath on your right and a clear path which rises up the hill.

The path rises steadily uphill and should be easy to follow. As you gain height look to your left at Little Langdale Tarn sitting below Tilberthwaite Fells and look behind you as Windermere starts to appear in the distance.

As you gain height you start to see views of the Langdale Valley looking towards Pavey Ark and Harrisson Stickle.

The path is generally easy to follow but does require a little care on a few short steeper sections. In the wet some sections can be damp, but you can see the routes other walkers have taken in an attempt to keep their feet dry (often unsuccessful after heavy rain)

A small rocky outcrop by a wall is the summit of Lingmoor where the views in all directions are some of the very best in the Lake District. Looking towards Pavey Ark and Harission Stickle you can see the slightly lower summit of Side Pike, if you go there the views of that part of the valley are even better.

Once rested and views taken in return the same way all the way to the bridleway and the gate just before the option to take the trail to the left. Proceed left which is also a popular trail for mountain bikes to watch out for them as the steep technical rocks are very popular.

Follow the signs for Chapel stile which take you through the working quarry and soon to be, somewhat controversial, visitor experience. Look out for the information on the history of quarrying which has shaped the local landscape and communities.

Once you reach the footbridge on your left its time to pop into Wainwrights Inn for some rest and refreshment before the short walk on the path or road back to the Langdale Estate.
